Travel. Write. Teach.

Now that I have been away for a little while, a lot of people, particularly my parents, ask me what my plans are. Despite the appearance of a footloose and fancy free approach to life, I do have plans. I need plans. I actually quite like plans. And I’ve always had plans, for as long as I can remember (plans to be a doctor, actress, popstar, professional tennis player). Perhaps because Plans and I have always had such a good, understanding, safe relationship, I have been able to step sideways, pop off the beaten track for a little while, take a different route every now and then – because I know that this doesn’t negate my plans, simply fattens them up, exposes them to new ideas and directions that perhaps Plans and I hadn’t thought of before.

My fundamental plan is to live a life that allows me to write as much as possible, travel as much as possible, engage with people as much as possible and use everything gained from this potent combination to affect an element of change; in thought, in my surroundings, in people. You may ask why not within myself; there, it is not change I seek, but growth.

And so, whilst chatting with my Dad over dinner not too long ago, I distilled my plans into  handy triplet; travel, write and teach. Each feed, enable and enrich each other. It’s the perfect ménage à trois that will – according to the plan – take me around the world for the next little while. If anything changes, or I veer off course for a bit, I’ll let you know (you too, Ma.)

      1. Spain is Pretty cool, a very different culture from Germany though, and the transition was a little different. I’m getting used to it though, and as the weather gets nicer I’m looking more and more forward to a Spanish summer :D
